The Colombo Montessori Teacher Training Centre was established by a
group of dedicated Montessori Teachers and high esteemed
professionals. Mrs Chandra Alagiyawanna, who was a direct student of
Dr. Maria Montessori and Professor Priyani E Soysa were among the
distinguished founder members of this institution.
In 1987 the center received affiliation from Fairfax University, New
Orleans,
Colombo Montessori Teacher Training programs became very unique
due to the reason that the programs were incorporated with research
work done in the field of Montessori Education.
The first teacher training session was commenced at Bishop's College
Colombo. The first inaugural training lecture was conducted by Miss
Joice Gunesekara who was a direct student of Dr. Montessori.
First training lectures were conducted at Bishop's College Colombo.
Subsequently the training was done at Methodist College Colombo until
it was moved in to the present location at Mt. Lavinia in 2003.
